For a political fundraiser in New Jersey in 2009, I created an Izakaya-inspired menu of dishes that looked like traditional American bar food but had a Japanese flavor twist to them: think BLT steamed buns, chicken wings with soy and chilies, and wagyu sliders with curry ketchup.
